What academic research says about gold

Before you buy or sell, read what the peer-reviewed evidence actually says. Every day we aggregate the most-cited academic papers on gold from four open scholarly databases, rank them by citation count, and link each study to its original text plus a Google Scholar cross-check.

Sources: arXiv · OpenAlex · Crossref · Semantic Scholar · Google Scholar has no public API, so we provide a per-study verification link instead.

How we keep this data correct

  • We read official metadata only (title, authors, year, citation count) from open APIs; we never republish paper text.
  • Duplicates are merged by DOI or title, incomplete records are dropped, and results are ranked by citations.
  • Every study carries its canonical link (DOI or arXiv) plus a Google Scholar cross-check, so nothing appears without a verifiable source.
  • These are informational digests, not investment advice.

Gold as an inflation hedge

Does gold actually protect purchasing power? What the evidence says across decades and markets.

  • Mendelian randomization with invalid instruments: effect estimation and bias detection through Egger regression10.8k cited
Jack Bowden, George Davey Smith, Stephen Burgess · 2015 · International Journal of Epidemiology

BACKGROUND: The number of Mendelian randomization analyses including large numbers of genetic variants is rapidly increasing. This is due to the proliferation of genome-wide association studies, and the desire to obtain more precise estimates of causal effects. However, some genetic variants may not be valid instrumental variables, in particular due to them having more than one proximal phenotypic correlate (pleiotropy). METHODS: We view Mendelian randomization with multiple instruments as a met

  • Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment: RNA Ligands to Bacteriophage T4 DNA Polymerase9.2k cited
Craig Tuerk, Larry Gold · 1990 · Science

High-affinity nucleic acid ligands for a protein were isolated by a procedure that depends on alternate cycles of ligand selection from pools of variant sequences and amplification of the bound species. Multiple rounds exponentially enrich the population for the highest affinity species that can be clonally isolated and characterized. In particular one eight-base region of an RNA that interacts with the T4 DNA polymerase was chosen and randomized. Two different sequences were selected by this pr

Mohammad H. Forouzanfar, Ashkan Afshin, Lily Alexander et al. · 2016 · The Lancet

BACKGROUND: The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2015 provides an up-to-date synthesis of the evidence for risk factor exposure and the attributable burden of disease. By providing national and subnational assessments spanning the past 25 years, this study can inform debates on the importance of addressing risks in context. METHODS: We used the comparative risk assessment framework developed for previous iterations of the Global Burden of Disease Study to estimate attr

  • SciPy 1.0: fundamental algorithms for scientific computing in Python36.9k cited
Pauli Virtanen, Ralf Gommers, Travis E. Oliphant et al. · 2020 · Nature Methods

Abstract SciPy is an open-source scientific computing library for the Python programming language. Since its initial release in 2001, SciPy has become a de facto standard for leveraging scientific algorithms in Python, with over 600 unique code contributors, thousands of dependent packages, over 100,000 dependent repositories and millions of downloads per year. In this work, we provide an overview of the capabilities and development practices of SciPy 1.0 and highlight some recent technical deve

  • Consumer Perceptions of Price, Quality, and Value: A Means-End Model and Synthesis of Evidence27.1k cited
    Valarie A. Zeithaml · 1988 · Journal of Marketing

Evidence from past research and insights from an exploratory investigation are combined in a conceptual model that defines and relates price, perceived quality, and perceived value. Propositions about the concepts and their relationships are presented, then supported with evidence from the literature. Discussion centers on directions for research and implications for managing price, quality, and value.

Jørgen Vestbo, Suzanne S. Hurd, Àlvar Agustí et al. · 2012 · American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a global health problem, and since 2001, the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) has published its strategy document for the diagnosis and management of COPD. This executive summary presents the main contents of the second 5-year revision of the GOLD document that has implemented some of the vast knowledge about COPD accumulated over the last years. Today, GOLD recommends that spirometry is required for the clinical diagno

  • Distribution of the Estimators for Autoregressive Time Series with a Unit Root23.1k cited
David A. Dickey, Wayne A. Fuller · 1979 · Journal of the American Statistical Association

Let n observations Y 1, Y 2, ···, Y n be generated by the model Y t = pY t−1 + e t , where Y 0 is a fixed constant and {e t } t-1 n is a sequence of independent normal random variables with mean 0 and variance σ2. Properties of the regression estimator of p are obtained under the assumption that p = ±1. Representations for the limit distributions of the estimator of p and of the regression t test are derived. The estimator of p and the regression t test furnish methods of testing the hypothesis
