75% pure · 18/24 · hallmarked 75018K is three-quarters gold, stamped 750, and it is the international standard for fine jewellery — what most European and designer houses work in. A quarter of the metal is alloy, making it noticeably harder than 21K or 22K and far better at holding a polished edge.
That hardness is why gem-set pieces are usually 18K: prongs holding a diamond have to stay where they were bent, and softer gold lets stones work loose. It is also the karat that carries colour — a copper-heavy mix gives rose gold, palladium or nickel gives white gold.
Priced per gram it looks cheaper than 21K, but that is arithmetic, not a discount: you are buying a quarter less gold. Sold back, the shop pays on 75% of the weight — so compare 18K against 21K by gold content, never by the sticker.
The dominant retail karat in Thailand is 23K, so 18K is usually a deliberate choice here — bought for what it does better, not because it is what the shop happened to have.
